Keeping cool, scarves and umbrellas

Fri 26 June 2026 Wow it's been a hot week and I needed some serious cooling solutions on Wednesday - I'd booked to see the Marilyn Monroe exhibition at the NPG which was beautiful, otherwise I would have stayed at home on the hottest recorded June day in history (until Thursday came along). I wore one of my organic cotton scarves in Lucky Jade, they are soft, highly breathable and keep you cool. I also took a brolly and a foldable fan and did ok all things considered. A delicious vegan gelato on New Row helped too.

I'm quite drawn to 'umbrellas' and intend to make a pattern featuring them at some stage. I was reminded of an impromptu photo that was taken of my mum when she was walking in the snow with an umbrella in Port Sunlight as a girl. The photo was used on the cover of a Lever Brothers magazine. A favourite painting of mine is an unfinished one by Degas, I love the sketchiness of it and always try to spend some minutes with it when visiting The Courtauld Gallery. There is also a special look at Pierre Auguste Renoir's 'The Umbrellas' by the National Gallery which I would recommend having a listen to if you have a few minutes.
