Why Inkwell Designs?

We unearthed this adorable Victorian glass inkwell whilst building our garden studio. Its discovery is reflected in the Inkwell Designs label and with my intention to use ink well.

I only work with printers who share the same ethics as I do, and who offer the option of printing on organic cotton for my textile collection and on recylced card for my stationery. I request speciifc information about where their fabrics are sourced and ensure they are using water-based inks.

Cotton is a worldwide environmental issue due to the amount of pesticides and the sheer quantity of water needed to produce it. Organic Cotton however is produced without toxins and chemicals and uses up to 80% less water, making it a far more sustainable and environmental solution.

A bit about me

Hello, I’m Nicola Erdpresser, founder of Inkwell Designs. As a freelance graphic designer and stained glass artist I enjoy making marks, and working with graphic elements, colour and light. I’m also an environmental campaigner and am passionate about making my products in a sustainable way, so I print on organic cotton which is not only soft and luxurious but uses up to 80% less water to produce..

I studied Typography & Graphic Communications at Reading University and have worked for most of my career in book publishing. Having discovered a love of textile design I’ve been developing my collection of products with a focus on being kind to our planet. I started off by making ‘zero waste’ cutlery bags for when we are out and about, helping to avoid single-use cutlery going to landfill. My textile design collection includes some beautiful fine organic cotton scarves, organic cotton cushion covers and a range of colourful organic cotton tea towels.

In 2020 during the pandemic, I kept creative by running weekly online sketching sessions. A selection of my drawings have been printed as greetings cards on recycled card. My colourful patterns are also now available as a collection of notepads and a pack of A7 greetings cards.

My whole collection can be purchased online or at various craft markets which I will list in the Events section.
